The International Committee Peace, Justice and Dignity to the People issued a global call today for solidarity actions in defense of Cuba against the threat of imperialist aggression and the devastating impact of the longstanding U.S. blockade.

The International Committee Peace, Justice and Dignity to the People through a communiqué has extended an urgent appeal to individuals of goodwill worldwide, urging them to support actions that will unfold globally from April 19 onwards.

This critical call to action arrives in the Centenary Year of Fidel Castro and marks the 65th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs victory, recognized as the first defeat of imperialism in Latin America.

The solidarity campaign seeks to highlight the severe and enduring damage inflicted upon Cuba by the U.S. blockade, which has persisted for 64 years. This unilateral measure has been overwhelmingly condemned by the international community, with the vast majority of countries -excluding Israel, U.S and Argentina-, voting against it 33 times in the United Nations General Assembly.

The blockade has been brutally intensified, notably under the first presidency of Donald Trump, who imposed an additional 243 sanctions against the Caribbean nation. The sanctions also include the relentless persecution of Cuba’s International Medical Collaboration Agreements, programs that have provided crucial healthcare assistance to millions across the Global South. Furthermore, Cuba remains on the U.S. list of countries allegedly promoting terrorism, an unilateral designation widely criticized as politically motivated.

Text reads: “Many of us wonder how it is possible for international bodies that must ensure respect between nations to allow the U.S. to impose collective punishment for 64 years by blockade on Cuba, a small country that never assaulted it. How is that possible?”

Despite the extensive suffering already inflicted upon the entire Cuban people, the current United States administration escalated its hostile stance on January 29 by declaring Cuba an “unusual and extraordinary threat.” This declaration was immediately followed by the imposition of an energy blockade, enforced through the coercive threat of applying tariffs to any country globally that provides petroleum to Cuba. This move is a direct attempt to further suffocate the island’s economy and create even greater hardship for its citizens by cutting off essential fuel supplies, as is denounced by the International Committee.

The possibility of military aggression against Cuba has been a persistent concern for 67 years. Today, this possibility appears to be transforming into a real threat given the bellicose and criminal character of a far-right administration in the United States. This administration, according to the International Committee’s communiqué, attempts to mask internal disasters and social problems within its own country, displaying utter contempt for International Law and the sovereignty of people. It aims to assert control over the entire region and has shown a willingness to engage in aggressive actions even amidst negotiations if the targeted nation does not succumb to its obscure interests.

Cuba is currently enduring a criminal policy orchestrated by the United States. The severe consequences, as detailed the statement, include 1,400 children suffering from cancer whose treatments are imperiled due to a lack of essential supplies. Additionally, 96,000 patients are on waiting lists for surgical interventions that cannot proceed due to the same scarcity, with 11,000 of these patients being children. The lives of babies born with low birth weight or requiring incubators are also at risk, as are pregnant women who need specialized medical examinations.

The recent oil blockade exacerbates these humanitarian crises, leading to lengthy blackouts, severe shortages of food and medicines and a lack of public transport.

Furthermore, Cuba faces another front: a multidimensional media war denounced by the International Committee, characterized by headlines that morph into social media hashtags, distorting, manipulating, and poisoning public discourse to divide and sow hatred against the nation.

Cuba wants to live in peace“, stated the communiqué. This is the premise that next April 19 will gather social movements and political organizations around the world, demanding an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba and the cessation of aggression against the country.
